Perched along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Floyd and Patrick counties, the Rocky Knob AVA was established in 1983 and is among the smallest federally-designated AVAs in the country. At over two thousand feet elevation, its two producers grow varieties well-suited to cooler, mountain-climate conditions. The setting — mile markers 170 to 175 on the Parkway — is spectacular, and a winery visit here pairs naturally with one of Virginia's best scenic drives.
